Robert Schettig of Pennsylvania
took a "40-inch moose, good for Newfoundland, and a 23-point caribou,
a little better than average" on his combination caribou and moose
hunt in late September and early October.
He rated the hunt "very good" overall. he said he saw 40 moose,
30 caribou and four black bear. He said there are some good bull moose
and that hunters should expect to work hard.
He said the food and cook
were excellent, the guides were good and hard-working and tried hard
to please and the camp was well-run and clean.
He said the outfitter gives a good honest hunt, and his only suggestion
for improvement was in meat handling. He said he would recommend this
hunt to anyone. |
Home Lodges ...
We own and operate six big game hunting lodges which makes us one
one of the largest outfitting businesses in Newfoundland. Although
we run a large operation, personal contact with individual hunters
is provided by a great support staff. This includes ourselves; we
spend the entire hunting season at our lodges and try to make personal
contact with each hunter individually. We are well experienced hunters
ourselves, and we take great pride in helping our guests achieve hunting
success. (Our average success is 95% moose, 100% kill for caribou)
To ensure your personal comfort, we take only four hunters per week
at each hunting lodge and a full time cook is provided. Breakfast
and dinner is cooked at the lodge, while lunch is prepared and packed
for you to take hunting. We don't promise any luxurious lodges that
sacrifice hunters success, but we do promise clean and comfortable
lodging while staying with us.
We have two lodges located in MMA 19, and both are located in the
River Valleys. Mouse Pond and Big Pond
are remotely located, fly-in only hunting lodges. Spot and Stalk hunting
method is used at both locations and moose and caribou hunting is
great at each. Above average bear hunting is also available here.
One of our most productive big game hunting lodges is located in Moose
Management Area (MMA) 4 at Leslie Lake. This lodge
is in a remote heavily wooded location. Even though this lodge is
accessible by ATV, there are no local hunters and the hunting for
moose is exceptionally good during the rut. Caribou hunting is great
here as well.
At Snowey Lake, also located in (MMA) 4 we have a
fly-in hunting lodge. Transportation to and from this lodge is provided
by helicopter and the hunting here is done mostly by spotting from
the high ridges. This hunting lodge can sometimes be challenging but
is more often rewarding. Be prepared to follow your hunting guide
and you'll get your animals.
Located on the boundary of Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland,
is Stephens Pond. This lodge provides excellent hunting
opportunities for those hunters that have difficulty walking. This
hunting lodge is accessible by road and the big game here wanders
in from the National Park. We have excellent success rates at this
hunting lodge.
Partridge Pond is our newest lodge and it was built
mostly for Ptarmigan (Partridge) and Caribou. It is located on the
edge of the long range mountains MMA 2 where Caribou migrate annually
to their winter feeding grounds. We have excellent hunting here during
late fall. Game birds are numerous at this hunting location.
